The Houston Marathon is my race of choice to qualify for the Holy Grail of amateur marathoning, the Boston Marathon. This is my story of the twelve months in preparation, my thoughts as I run, and my training efforts.

Training, Or Not
Getaway days are tough. No working out for this guy. Now for vacation. I'm out.
I am a 43 year old Houston-based white collar shin-splint-afflicted runner who is trying to qualify for the Boston Marathon. After not running, or even exercising, for over 20 years, I realized a few summers ago I needed to get in better physical condition to safely enjoy the outdoor activities I participate in most often: mountain climbing, backpacking, snowshoeing, skiing, rafting, and fly fishing. This effort to get in better condition resulted in my running the Houston Marathon two years ago, and has continued to morph into a Bucket List goal of qualifying for and running in the Boston Marathon.
